A little blurry. Sorry about that, but this is the line to get on the Statan Island Ferry. About 10,000 people are waiting. The line snakes to the right, down the road, and back down towards where I am standing.
People wear all sorts of items on their helmet to help their friends find them in the vast crowds. Something tells me this man's choice was not the "I Love You" lion
Inside the ferry. We are packed in and the wind is blowing right through this tunnel. It is bitterly cold and many of us are dressed in short sleeves and shorts because it will be getting rather warm.
The starting line. About two miles of bikes are packed in on the stree waiting to move.
And, we're off! Not too bad this year, just a quarter to 9. Last year, we didn't get moving until almost 11am.
